GLX Graphite
For the hard-core angler that demands the ultimate in performance these blanks are the best of the best. GLX will allow you to build the lightest, strongest and most sensitive rods possible. These blanks allow you to build rods up to 25% lighter than rods at comparable strength, putting these blanks in a class all by themselves.
IMX Graphite
Available in spinning, casting and fly fishing models, SLATE blanks offer the ultimate in high performance, high modulus fibers. With an impressive modulus ( stiffness-to-weight ratio ), and an extremely high strain-rate ( elongation-to-failure rating ), We're able to manufacture a blank that can be as much as 40 % lighter than a comparable standard graphite model, and incredibly more sensitive. Fly rodders will appreciate the quick, responsive actions and efficiency in the casting stroke provided by this high energy, high performance material. SLATE blanks feature a non-glare stealth finish to help reduce weight to the very minimum and eliminate fish spooking glare.
GL3 Graphite
Available in spinning, casting and fly fishing models, the new look MAHOGANY blanks are made from out extremely popular GL3 graphite. It is a mid-range performance blank that offers a perfect blend of intermediate modulus fibers with a fairly high strain-rate. Born from improvements to our original IM6 blanks, The new mahogany blanks are a rich red/brown, combining a hint of tradition with a touch of class. They are substantially lighter and more responsive than standard graphite blanks, making them a great value for the level of performance offered.
GL2 Graphite
Standard graphite spinning and casting blanks made on the tradition of G.Loomis performance with numerous technical improvements to make it stronger and more durable. It's substantially more responsive, lighter and more sensitive than our original 96% regular graphite blank. The new look (GL2) GRANITE blanks are amazingly powerful with a strength-to-weight ratio that will surprise you. Thanks to a highly effective epoxy resin system, you won't find a tougher, stronger blank for it's weight anywhere. Manufactured with a beautiful Pearl Grey finish to give the custom builder a number of contrasting wrap/color options, it's high performance an entry-level price.
Composite graphite/glass
The perfect blend of fiberglass and graphite to make a bold, powerful blank that gives you the strength you need to move big fish yet maintain a substantial reduction in weight. The fiberglass allows us to make a softer, more forgiving tip section that can absorb those last minute lunges at boat side. The graphite allows us to reduce the overall weight of the blank, while providing a stiffer butt-section that recover quickly to help you put more line back on the reel. The actions are fast to give you total control. Composite " OBSIDIAN " blanks are available in both saltwater and Muskie models. A beautiful, tough gloss black finish allows you to use any number of threads color combinations.
Blank Actions
We tailor blank actions ( where the blank flexes under load ) to the fishing application. A slow-action blank is less accurate than it's fast-action counter-part, but more forgiving for large fish and light line. Fast-action blanks are stiffer in the butt-section and are usually more powerful, providing better casting accuracy and help move fish move away from cover or other obstructions.
Power Ratings
All spin, cast and saltwater blanks are rated for power on a 00-8 numeric basis. It is normally, the last number of each model number. The exception being a "-2" or "-3" which refers to a multi-piece blank, and the number of pieces. The higher the number, the stronger/stiffer the blank, the lover the number, the lighter/softer the blank. Power ratings are group specific. For example: steelhead blanks do not have the same "4-power" rating as a surf for blank, or a bass rod blank. Each are compared only to the blanks in their specific-use category.
Fly Line Ratings
G.Loomis fly rod blanks are rated for weight forward lines. Ratings are the same for double taper line and keeping a lot of line in the air, you should move down one size. If you are using a shooting taper of casting very short distances, move up one line size. For example a 9' blank, rated for a #5 line balances at 35-40 feet with a 9' leader, but if you frequently make casts of less than 30-feet, you may want to move up to a # 6 line.
